Prelude - “Way Beyond the Blue

SCOMBER: (Narrator/MC)

Good evening and thanks for coming folks!

Please feel free to take off your shoes but keep those smelly socks on please as a form of respect for the person sitting next to you.

Scomber Productions encourage all of you to come out towards the stage to dance and strip down to your underwear.
(especially you sweatheart ;-0)

My name’s Scomber, and, I’ll be your host for tonight…
All cash donations can be placed into the box in the lobby to your left as you exit the theater…
I’d like to thank all the hard working producers of this play and the incredibly underpaid musos sweating it out in the orchestra pit -
especially that geeky guy with the glasses on the cymbals —-!——

(thanks Eugene)

Sit back and enjoy our new production;
“Blue Lips, Loose Hips.” …

Take it away Jim…

Our story begins in Paris France in the summer of 2009.
Our hero Anchor lives a carefree and comfortable life cocooned from worry in his fashionable Parisian apartment.
Over the noise of the early morning crickets and that annoying accordion music, he lies asleep - in a debauched bed with his supermodel girlfriend Kate beside him.
The morning sun shines through the window and awakens him. He kisses his pretty on the nape of the neck and feels the odd sensation of cold, lifeless skin against his lips.
Her lips are blue and I’m afraid to tell you all that she has expired - - at a bare minimum, in breach of her Loreal contact.
A diet of green grapes and constant parties has caught up with her and Anchor is hit by the reality that she has passed to that great catwalk in the sky.

Anchor stands up looks down to his lifeless “Pretty” and sings this tearful soliloquy (in his underpants)

You’re on a plane,
to Paris France.
Forgot to pack
your underpants.

Green grapes for lunch,
and dinner too -
You don’t touch me -
I can’t touch you.

Your life, the catwalk,
lengere, makeup.
Your eyes are glazed
your lips are blue!
are you dead?
Or just pretending?

Pretty
Pretty Yeah
pretending, Pretty

Chorus
Everything is pretty yeah
Everything is pretty.

Is this the start
of a new ending?
Pretty?

Chorus
Everything is pretty yeah
Everything is pretty.

Everything could be so pretty.
Everything could be
so pretty.

Scene2 “Time & Space - The Book Burning

Audio components:
Music: Vidian “ Forest of Dreams
Narration & Script : Scomber

Voiceover Narration: Scomber

Anchor sits dejected , forlorn at the foot of his bed.
He begins to grieve those lost parties and spontaneously staged photo ops.

He turns his gaze upon her pretty face.
It is grey, her hair is matted, her lips are blue
- yet he is struck by the way she appears even more pretty and fashionable than before.

Blindly, he walks towards his library in the hope of finding the solace from an old master.
Dickens, Keats, Chaucer - books so thick and heavy with new found menace.
He starts plucking his old friends from the shelves like discarded flowers from an abandoned hearse.
He walks to the living room,
opens his dear friend William Blake
and sets fire to a woolly tale of a lamb.

In an automated madness ,
to the sound of the pale faced guy upstairs who plays the pipe organ
he begins to throw another book into the growing fire.
Joyce, Wordsworth, Poe -
the fire is getting larger.
Not even DH Lawrence can save him now.

Over the crackling of page and spine
He reflects upon on his sorrowful deed ……
and begins to sing…..

Courtesy of Anchor, here are his words;
